Chapter Eleven

“Your Way” The Diplomats

Amir

I’d been in this hellhole for two months, and I felt like I was losing my fucking mind. There was no way I could do even half the time they were threatening to hit me with. I had to do something.

Seeing old man Greg on the news was a sign or some shit. It actually gave me the best idea I’d had in years. The next time I saw my lawyer, I dropped a bomb on him.

“I have information about a murder.”

His eyebrows raised in surprise.

“A murder? Was it recently?”

“Naw, this happened a few years ago. It was made to look like an overdose.”

Rothberg had looked genuinely confused.

“What?”

I briefly explained the death of Mya’s oldest brother, Junior. Well, the version I had decided to give him after I went back to my cell and thought of a way I could get the fuck outta here sooner. Instead of telling him I intentionally put too much Fentanyl in Junior’s stamp bags so that he could overdose after he caught me getting head from Trey, I flipped the script. I told him Trey had purposely killed Junior by giving him tainted heroin. When Rothberg asked what his motive was, I told him Junior and Trey had been fooling around, and Trey didn’t want anybody else to know.

Yeah, it might’ve been fucked up to slander a dead man’s name, and I knew that, but it wasn’t like he was here to hear it. Besides, even though I had been caught with Neal, I wasn’t about to admit to having shit with Trey. What good would that do me? This way, I’d be able to kill two birds with one stone. My time would get reduced, and I would get Trey out the way at the same damn time. I ain’t forget about the way that nigga ran his mouth and all that other shit he did because I ain’t want him. They should throw his ass under the jail for all that alone. What kind of man would wear his emotions on his sleeve like that? He was the one that needed be locked up, not me.

Rothberg had looked thoughtful.

“That murder may be hard to prove. The good news though, is that his father has been all over the news lately. He said publicly more than once that he knows his son’s death was no accident.”

“It wasn’t,” I confirmed, feeling no shame at all in placing all the blame on Trey.

Shit, it was either him or me.

“Okay, so I’ll go to the D.A. about it.” He looked me straight in the eye. “And you don’t have anything else for me?”

At the time, I shook my head. I was too worried about whose name was on my paperwork to even think about putting mine on someone else’s. I wasn’t thinking about throwing nobody else’s ass in the fire; I was too worried about finding out who threw my ass in. I told him once again to find out who snitched on me.
